Making our Hanging Rooter Vases
At The Brass Butterfly, each hanging Rooter vase is carefully handcrafted in our Vermont studio using a hands-on process that combines metalwork, glass, and botanical design.
The process begins with a hand-blown glass vase that is carefully attached to a wooden base. Each vase is individually cleaned and polished to give the glass a clear, beautiful finish.
We cut and bend copper-coated steel rod to form the shape of each hanger. The metal is shaped, welded, and finished to create the clean lines that define our designs.
Every solid brass butterfly is individually soldered onto the frame and then buffed to bring out its warm finish and remove any remaining marks from the soldering process.
The matching hooks are formed and finished before each piece is dipped in a protective coating to help minimize tarnishing and preserve the finish over time.
Because every Rooter vase is made by hand, slight variations in the glass and metalwork are part of what make each piece unique.
